Caffè Gilli

This artwork, titled Mezzogiorno, is now part of the personal art collection of the owners of Caffè Gilli, a historic café in the heart of Florence since 1733.

Gilli has been a constant during my time in Florence - a place for breakfast, merenda, and, often enough, lunch. It’s where I’ve read Moravia and Calvino, drawn on my iPad, and passed time watching the carousel spin in Piazza della Repubblica through the open windows. In 1967, the café catered my parents’ wedding on a rooftop terrace nearby. It means so much to me that a drawing I made of this café now lives with the family who keeps it alive.
